Holy Sh*t

In which we get the list done and are ready to race
Holy Sh*t

Friends, I stand before you today with a racecar ready to race. We have completed everything on our required To-Do list, and much of the "nice to haves" got done along the way. It's been a huge effort by the team, capped with an 8 hour session on Memorial Day.

At the end of my last update, we had made great progress but still had a way to go. Let's jump in where that list left off.

  • Install hood pins.(in-progress)

This was straightforward from where we left off: drill the holes in the hood! Then, round them out with a file. Then balance the hood on the pins and add washers until it's mostly level. Then file out the holes some more. Then, add the pins!

  • Buy/install fender flares (in-progress)

Here again, pretty straightforward if time-consuming work to line up these fender flares. We had to clean up the rears installed last session, and install the fronts. The end result is pretty stunning we think.

  • Install fire suppression (in-progress)

Like most of this list, this was the ragged end of a task. We had got nozzles lined up in the engine bay, 3, pointed at fuel pump/lines, fuel rail, and the exhaust manifold a previous worknight. This round we needed to add the in-cabin nozzles, pointed at the driver. As I stated in that last post, the idea of a fire suppression system is that it shoots retardant at the places you don't want on fire. Like your crotch.

  • Add front bumper and sweet splitter

There's always something, every year, that Nick just surprises the team with. Sometimes he paints the car. Sometimes he puts horns on it. This time he added this amazing bumper and spitter, for the downforce. The bumper was claimed from the side of the road on Federal in Denver. The splitter is remainder plywood. The color is finest rattlecan.

  • Add a bitchin chain to the front tow points

Tow points are mandatory, tow chains just look bitchin.

bitchin, thy name is tow chains

And... that's it! We're ready for the race. Getting to the track turnedout to be a lot more involved than we'd like, but that's a story for another post. For now, Car 15, the 1981 Datsun 280zx is ready to race.
